The post-Minecraft era of gaming has given rise to a slew of independent titles, and one genre in particular has come from seemingly nowhere to storm the video game world. While major developers focus on shooters and sports and racing, the roguelike has emerged as the flavor of choice among indie developers. With big successes like Spelunky, FTL: Faster Than Light, Rogue Legacy, and even Minecraft, the genre is a flourishing in a way not seen since the days of its inception in the early 80's.
